tools and protocols

We use innovative tools and protocols dedicated to Visual and hearing screening. The latter include express visual and auditory tests with a Kinyarwanda vocal list, efficient materials such as refractions with retinoscope, blood pressure monitors, slip lamp but also an inventive hearing aid platform that allows for live and personalized monitoring.

For Vision, our aims are to :

  • Examine and diagnose between 2000 and 2500 patients

  • Performing more than 200 surgeries: cataract - glaucoma, ...

  • Distribute 200 pairs of corrective glasses for those in need

For Hearing, our aims are to :

  • Prioritize school-children diagnosis of hearing problems needing a hearing aid

  • Perform operations for ear plugs, infections and perforated eardrums

  • Deliver hearing aids and ensure their follow-up.

Our Project

The team was made up of 22 experts including 3 Ophthalmologists, 4 optometrists, 2 ENT and 3 hearing care professionals, working alongside with Rwandan doctors.

We targeted two schools in the district of Ngoma, Kazo and Kansana, for Visual-Hearing screening, On-site consultations in Ophthalmology and ENT. We worked with the Kibungo Reference Hospital in order to deliver Hearing aids, Ophtalmology equipment, ENT consultations and orphtalmic surgeries.

“Some of our doctors will work with these specialists, for example the ones in operating theatre, those assisting them certainly learn something from the experts,” said Dr William Namanya, the Director General of Kibungo Referral Hospital,

Our contribution

  • 3.615 screenings of children from 6 to 12 years old in optic and hearing

  • 1.402 refractions

  • 731 ENT consultations

  • 148 hearing aids delivered

  • 384 ophtalmic consultations

  • 76 cataract surgeries

  • 25 oculoplasty surgeries

Our project

The team is made up of 25 persons including 3 ENT and 4 ophtalmologists working alongside with Rwandan doctors.

We targeted three schools in the Ngoma district, Ndekwe, Kibare and Rukira, for Visual-Hearing screening, On-site consultations in Ophthalmology and ENT.

We worked with the Chuck and the Kibungo Referral hospitals in order to deliver Hearing aids, Ophtalmology equipment, ENT consultations, and orphtalmic surgeries.

Our contribution

  • 4.477 screenings of children from 6 to 12 years old in optic and hearing

  • 1.746 refractions in addition to many on-site consultations

  • 180 hearing aids delivered

  • 267 ENT consultations

  • 86 ophtalmic consultations

  • 35 ohptalmic surgeries including 25 major ones

  • 35 glasses delivered
